Luke 24: 1-12…. Dare I believe it TRUE?

Passage taken from the Holy Bible ESV translation.

But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.” And they remembered his words, and returning from the tomb they told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. Now it was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told these things to the apostles, but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them. But Peter rose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; and he went home marvelling at what had happened.

Comment: If this is True, it is shattering. If true – there is no question, there is life after death! Did they come back to the wrong tomb and did they concoct the story about the clothes inside and the Risen One meeting them? Did the disciples steal and hide the body to make out that He risen as He said that he would? If that’s true they went on to be tortured and die for their deception. Many are recorded as having met Him, talked and eaten with Him – even large groups saw Him at the same time. How this story has changed the world! And I confess my life also!

Prayer: I believe, help my unbelief!

  1. Yes, the Resurrection of Jesus has changed the world, for those who have eyes and ears to see and hear – AND BELIEVE! Belief is the crux of this whole thing. Believing, or not believing. That is the question. I saw the Christian film “Risen”. It told the story of the Resurrection of Jesus, and also told the story of the Roman soldiers who were commanded to go and search for the body of Jesus. But they never found His body. Surely that is another clue to this whole mystery. Every other religion has a tomb where their leader is buried. But not for the Christian. The body of Jesus has been resurrected. As the Angels said, “He is not here. He is risen!”
