* Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me!
O LORD, make haste to help me!
** Let those be put to shame and disappointed altogether
who seek to snatch away my life;
let those be turned back and brought to dishonor
who delight in my hurt!
Let those be appalled because of their shame
who say to me, “Aha, Aha!”
*** But may all who seek you
rejoice and be glad in you;
may those who love your salvation
say continually, “Great is the LORD!”
**** As for me, I am poor and needy,
but the Lord takes thought for me.
Comment: There are clear divisions in this passage which I have marked with asterisks….
- * Jesus trusted God to be His helper as He was put to death. God responded with the resurrection
- ** Those who oppose and even scoff (aha, aha) are appointed to judgement.
- *** But the death and resurrection of Jesus means salvation those who turn to God
- **** Jesus needed the Father to act on His behalf, but I can’t help thinking that this is the cry of David as he understands, in some very meaningful way, what God has led him to write.
- Prayer: Please take thought of the poor and needy me, O Messiah!
