Genesis 27: 26-30…..Complications.

Then his father Isaac said to him, “Come near and kiss me, my son.” So he came near and kissed him. And Isaac smelled the smell of his garments and blessed him and said,
“See, the smell of my son
is as the smell of a field that the LORD has blessed!
May God give you of the dew of heaven
and of the fatness of the earth
and plenty of grain and wine.
Let peoples serve you,
and nations bow down to you.
Be lord over your brothers,
and may your mother’s sons bow down to you.
Cursed be everyone who curses you,
and blessed be everyone who blesses you!”
As soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob, when Jacob had scarcely gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, Esau his brother came in from his hunting.

Comment: Having eaten the meal, provided by the usurper Jacob, Isaac called him for a kiss of relationship and took the opportunity to apply the third test for Esau – the smell test – but Esau’s unwashed clothes on Jacob fooled the father. So the blessing of headship and service and the promise of greatness came to Jacob by trickery. But as Jacob leaves his father, Esau brings the fresh venison in the back door! Did God know about what was going on? Did He want the line to the promised Messiah to come through Jacob rather than Esau? Did God just have to accept and work around what people do or is He somehow the One Behind it All? What relationship does God hold in respect to His Created world? I know what I believe.

Prayer: Help me to think deeply as I consider Your position, O God!
