Psalm 49: 13-20….The riddle solved!

Comment: I suggest that you reread yesterday’s devotion to get into the thinking mode of this Psalm. Yesterday’s three sections left me with the question – who can possibly help me to deal with my (I guess mainly sin/guilt) problems when I die.

This is the path of those who have foolish confidence;
yet after them people approve of their boasts. Selah
Like sheep they are appointed for Sheol;
death shall be their shepherd,
and the upright shall rule over them in the morning.
Their form shall be consumed in Sheol, with no place to dwell.
But God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol,
for he will receive me. Selah Comment on Section four:
So far you’ve made the mistake of thinking like those who have confidence in themselves. Their thinking has been a shepherd guiding them into the bottomless pit of Sheol. If I’ve only got myself to provide an answer I will end up in as a decaying dead mass in ‘sheol – hell’! Think straight – remember God!
Be not afraid when a man becomes rich,
when the glory of his house increases.
For when he dies he will carry nothing away;
his glory will not go down after him.
For though, while he lives, he counts himself blessed
—and though you get praise when you do well for yourself—
his soul will go to the generation of his fathers,
who will never again see light.
Man in his pomp yet without understanding is like the beasts that perish.
Comment on Section five: Thinking only of wealth, status and praise may give you a great feeling, but when it comes to follow your parents and theirs into the beyond you will have nothing! You need to get your thinking right – and that gives God His proper place!

Prayer: Help me to balance well my preparation for time and eternity, Oh Ancient of Days.
