Psalm 54: 1-7….Delivery needed.

O God, save me by your name,
and vindicate me by your might.
O God, hear my prayer;
give ear to the words of my mouth.
For strangers have risen against me;
ruthless men seek my life;
they do not set God before themselves. Selah
Behold, God is my helper;
the Lord is the upholder of my life.
He will return the evil to my enemies;
in your faithfulness put an end to them.
With a freewill offering I will sacrifice to you;
I will give thanks to your name, O LORD, for it is good.
For he has delivered me from every trouble,
and my eye has looked in triumph on my enemies.

Comment: This is a straightforward psalm. David is in a fix. He calls upon God and explains to both us and God what the problem is; Deliver me,’ he says ‘and I will gladly offer sacrifices.’, From his other writings we know that David didn’t think that God needed feeding. Rather in gratitude sacrifices were offered and would be eaten, after some were burnt on the altar. In a very large part people were being fed as they ate the major portion of the meat or grain sacrifice. A huge percentage of sacrificing to God was spreading blessing on the people around the temple.

Prayer: Help me to let others be blessed from the thanksgiving I give to You, my God.
