AMOS 5: 25-27….Why is this here?

Did you bring to me sacrifices and offerings during the forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel? You shall take up Sikkuth your king, and Kiyyun your star-god—your images that you made for yourselves, and I will send you into exile beyond Damascus,” says the LORD, whose name is the God of hosts.

Comment: Amos is prophesying decades after the Wilderness experience under Moses. Immediately preceding this passage Amos has been belittling the Northern Kingdom because of false worship and sacrificial life, calling for justice and righteousness to flow over their nation and to be the mark of their living. Perhaps God is saying have you learnt nothing. In spite of my delivering you out of Egypt you sought after those strange sounding gods of the people through whose midst you travelled. You made your little gods even while I was in the process of making you a mighty nation! Not Egypt this time – prepare for Damascus and beyond.

Prayer: Help me to learn well the lessons You teach me, please.
