John 12: 20-26…..Greeks enquire.

Now among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks. So these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. And Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.

Comment: This is a fascinating interview. I suspect that these Greeks were proselytes, that is, they worshipped Jehovah as their God. I suspect that they went to Philip because they came from the same area. Philip gets the help of Andrew and they all go to Jesus. I presume that the words recorded of Jesus reply on being introduced to them is a summary – but it included, if you think deeply, – the coming Cross; that His death will bring a good harvest; to gain eternal life means handing over your life to Him; a follower follows; God sees and honours (blesses?) the person who follows Jesus. But as originally spoken it may have been more than the summary we have here! If not I hope some of the disciples took these Greeks aside and explained the meaning, although they also had a lot to learn over the next few days!

Prayer: Help me to understand well and be able to share Your gospel, Jesus.
