Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.
Comment: Jesus finishes off yesterday’s passage by saying ‘If My words aren’t enough think honestly about what you have seen me do!’ Then He says something which is hard to believe unless we consider that His body is now the church and instead of being constrained to one place ‘He’ can do things everywhere, whenever there are truly believing followers of His. Jesus then underlines His New Commandment about Christians loving one another, before promising that the co-equal in the Trinity will abide with and be in His followers. THUS, if I am a believer, I can truly thank God that He fulfils His promises!
Prayer: Thank You, Thank You, Lord, that You keep Your promises!
