30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
Comment: John doesn’t seek to tell the life story of Jesus completely. The Matthew and Luke’s gospels give us a glimpse into Jesus’ birth and early childhood. John starts much earlier, claiming that Jesus is the Creator and the Essence of all Life. Then He gives seven signs that he claims proves the Messianic Person of Jesus. He gives a lot of the teaching, listing seven “I AMs’, which Jesus claims to be. (For instance he said ‘I Am the good Shepherd – remember Ps 23 – The Lord is my shepherd?). Before going on to spend a number of chapters on the Cross and Resurrection – the Sacrificial Lamb and the promise of New Life. It causes me to believe!
Prayer: Help me to read this book with true understanding of its message, O God.
