Psalms 68:1-6….It’s easy to be skeptical!

1 God shall arise, his enemies shall be scattered;
and those who hate him shall flee before him!
2 As smoke is driven away, so you shall drive them away;
as wax melts before fire,
so the wicked shall perish before God!
3 But the righteous shall be glad;
they shall exult before God;
they shall be jubilant with joy!

4 Sing to God, sing praises to his name;
lift up a song to him who rides through the deserts;
his name is the LORD;
exult before him!
5 Father of the fatherless and protector of widows
is God in his holy habitation.
6 God settles the solitary in a home;
he leads out the prisoners to prosperity,
but the rebellious dwell in a parched land.

Comment: Do you see evil regimes prevailing in the world? Do you see God’s Truth, His morality, His Creatorship prevailing in our educational institutions or governments? Where do you see ‘the enemies fleeing or the wax melting’? But the strong affirmation is here that ‘the wicked shall perish before God!‘ and in the end the righteous …..shall be jubilant with joy!‘ How long do the righteous have to wait? And what about this ‘fatherless and widows’ business? James talks about true religion being caring for them, but there is so much suffering in this group throughout the world? Is it all related to Jesus’ story about the rich man and Lazarus and it all being sorted out in the hereafter? And what about prisoners? They were released in Haiti (and Australia) recently with dire results! In Australia at the moment we are having serious offenders not put in jails with recurrent crimes committed. Or does it mean unfairly jailed for political reasons? Or maybe it is taking about rehabilitation after jail time? This Psalm raises a lot of questions to think about but there are another 28 verses to go – I guess we will have to wait see where they take us!

Prayer: After all my questioning Father I would come to a simple but informed faith in Your Goodness and Dependability!
