Make haste, O God, to deliver me!
O LORD, make haste to help me!
Let them be put to shame and confusion
who seek my life!
Let them be turned back and brought to dishonor
who delight in my hurt!
Let them turn back because of their shame
who say, “Aha, Aha!” Comment: How often is it true that personal affliction is what is needed for us to come to God in prayer. His need was real. I don’t know what has happened before this prayer begins but I think that somehow or other a greeting and acknowledgement of Who God is might be appropriate.
May all who seek you
rejoice and be glad in you!
May those who love your salvation
say evermore, “God is great!” Comment: Maybe David realized that he hadn’t given much of a greeting to the God of whom he was asking a great deal! God is truly great, and it is sad that we, His creations, and particularly those to whom God has granted salvation in His Son, Jesus, don’t cry it out more frequently and louder ‘God is great!’.
But I am poor and needy;
hasten to me, O God!
You are my help and my deliverer;
O LORD, do not delay! Comment: But I am in need and please give me the need I help soon!
Prayer: Great God, please help me to come to You sooner and with more urgency than I am prone to do.
