Exodus 2: 11-15….The years fly by!

One day, when Moses had grown up, he went out to his people and looked on their burdens, and he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his people. He looked this way and that, and seeing no one, he struck down the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. When he went out the next day, behold, two Hebrews were struggling together. And he said to the man in the wrong, “Why do you strike your companion?” He answered, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you mean to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid, and thought, “Surely the thing is known.” When Pharaoh heard of it, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from Pharaoh and stayed in the land of Midian. And he sat down by a well.

Comment: The years fly by – possibly everyone knows Moses’ history; he probably looks significantly different – at any rate Moses knows that he is a Hebrew and not an Egyptian even though he holds the rank of Egyptian nobility! Probably with much emotion Moses protects a fellow Hebrew from a cruel Egyptian overlord. He buries the body thinking that all is covered. But the news is used by an evil Hebrew to cover his own malicious behaviour (once told the news must have spread out like an Australian summer bush fire!). The news reaches the Pharaoh’s ears and Moses is under the sentence of death! Very sensibly Moses flees into the wasteland of Midian where he finds some relief in drinking water.

Prayer: You don’t always provide comfort but thank You that You do provide challenges and protection.
