Revelation 5: 1-7….Instructions from the Master!

Then I saw in the right hand of him who was seated on the throne a scroll written within and on the back, sealed with seven seals. And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?” And no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it, and I began to weep loudly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it. And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”
And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. And he went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who was seated on the throne.

Comment: The first sentence has a lot more content than seen on a glance! Q – Who was the One sitting on the throne? Answer – God the Father, Creator of the Universe! Why would He have a ‘scroll? Was it a plan for the future? And looking further more questions. Q – Who was the ‘mighty angel’? I guess it doesn’t matter except that he had the position of the Clerk of the Heavenly Court and he was speaking with great authority! Q – why the tears? No one was found honorable enough to open the orders from God’s hand so John begins to weep – the weeping of distress. John was obviously meant to be distressed because the elder(s) already had the answer! The elder says with obvious delight ‘”the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.” This obviously refers to Jesus. The NT proves that He alone meets the the prophecies of the OT related to the Messiah! So John turns to see a mighty Lion, but sees a once slain, but alive again, Lamb. We envisage in those few words the whole Easter scene with the suffering, the death and the resurrection. Q – Why the seven horns and seven eyes? Seven is the number of perfection in the Bible; horns are the sign of power; seven eyes mean perfect sight and understanding! Jesus walks forward and takes the seven sealed scroll.

Prayer: Father God thank You for Your Son and what He has done for us!
