The LORD said to Moses, “Speak to the people of Israel, that they take for me a contribution. From every man whose heart moves him you shall receive the contribution for me. And this is the contribution that you shall receive from them: gold, silver, and bronze, blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, goats’ hair, tanned rams’ skins, goatskins, acacia wood, oil for the lamps, spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense, onyx stones, and stones for setting, for the ephod and for the breastpiece. And let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst. Exactly as I show you concerning the pattern of the tabernacle, and of all its furniture, so you shall make it.
Comment: God is about to tell Moses how He wants the place, where people who come to worship Him, is to be built. Although a travelling mobile structure, it was to be beautiful, honouring the God whom they worshipped. It was going to take materials and the people were to supply them. The worship of God is always costly to us. He demands our total devotion (how we so often fail!) and as we worship in churches and serve him in the world with many missions and attempts to reach people in His Name we need to be generous. I am reminded of Romans 12: 1&2 which says ‘I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.’
Prayer: O God you know me better than I know myself. Please help me to give to you my all as I live as one of Your children.
