Then Moses said to the people of Israel, “See, the LORD has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah; and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, with intelligence, with knowledge, and with all craftsmanship, to devise artistic designs, to work in gold and silver and bronze, in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, for work in every skilled craft. And he has inspired him to teach, both him and Oholiab the son of Ahisamach of the tribe of Dan. He has filled them with skill to do every sort of work done by an engraver or by a designer or by an embroiderer in blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, or by a weaver—by any sort of workman or skilled designer.
“Bezalel and Oholiab and every craftsman in whom the LORD has put skill and intelligence to know how to do any work in the construction of the sanctuary shall work in accordance with all that the LORD has commanded.”
And Moses called Bezalel and Oholiab and every craftsman in whose mind the LORD had put skill, everyone whose heart stirred him up to come to do the work. And they received from Moses all the contribution that the people of Israel had brought for doing the work on the sanctuary. They still kept bringing him freewill offerings every morning, so that all the craftsmen who were doing every sort of task on the sanctuary came, each from the task that he was doing, and said to Moses, “The people bring much more than enough for doing the work that the LORD has commanded us to do.” So Moses gave command, and word was proclaimed throughout the camp, “Let no man or woman do anything more for the contribution for the sanctuary.” So the people were restrained from bringing, for the material they had was sufficient to do all the work, and more.
Comment: See, the LORD has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. I suspect that when this man was born he was just seen as one of the many, often pesky, kids playing around the homes of Israel, and when his family were being horribly persecuted. He as a teenager may well have been a brick maker in a slave gang. He was probably born after the order that Pharaoh had given the order to kill all male offspring of the Israelis had been revoked. Otherwise I don’t know how he survived and there were many strong young men in the escaping mass led by Moses. I guess that the order had been revoked because the supply of slaves was running low! But he, like you, was special in the sight of God! God had plans for him to do a great work. He now with others is set over the people called to build this Tabernacle to the Glory of God Almighty. They are specially named but remember the person doing the stitching for the hem of the drapes was an important part of the workforce, and doing their job in a slap-happy fashion would have meant a ragged end of a beautiful piece of art! As a surgeon I used to say that the cleaner was just as important as me to get the job well done. Any infection would marr the end result! And I’m sure that it is a blessing indeed when people have to be told to stop donating!
Proverbs 24: 13-14 My son, eat honey, for it is good, and the drippings of the honeycomb are sweet to your taste. Know that wisdom is such to your soul; if you find it, there will be a future, and your hope will not be cut off. – What honey is to the taste, wisdom is to the soul!
Prayer: Help me to use whatever You have made me to be to the fullest and to Your Glory, my Lord.
