On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?”And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

Comment: After a number of parables, of which the other gospels give many more, Mark returns to the miracles which Jesus performed. And here is one. The Lake of Galilee (the Sea of Tiberias) covers 166 sq km and is nearly 43 metres deep at the deepest. The lake is prone to windstorms and Wikipedia reports ‘The wind gusts can reach very high speeds. In a storm on the lake, gusts can reach 125-164 km/h.” No wonder if in the centre of the lake in a small boat that they were afraid of drowning! And the boat was already being filled! The rest of the story is either a fake or goes a long way to proving that Mark was correct in calling Jesus the Son of God!
Proverbs 25: 12 Like a gold ring or an ornament of gold is a wise reprover to a listening ear. – Like the one above, some lessons are worth learning!
Prayer: I stand amazed in Your Presence, Lord Jesus!
