Isaiah 7:20-25….Desolation!

In that day the Lord will shave with a razor that is hired beyond the River—with the king of Assyria—the head and the hair of the feet, and it will sweep away the beard also. Comment: I love some of the phrases which other cultures use. I have a beard. A razor would destroy every evidence of it and leave a pale white area compared to the rest of of my face which, I think, has a North Queensland pleasant ‘tan’. Judgement is going to radically clear away the injustice, godlessness etc!
In that day a man will keep alive a young cow and two sheep, and because of the abundance of milk that they give, he will eat curds, for everyone who is left in the land will eat curds and honey. Comment:
The prosperity of the land will be destroyed. People instead of being agriculturalists will become poor wandering graziers! People will be left with just enough livestock to drink milk and eat curds supplemented by honey (presumably the bees able to make honey from the wild flowers and scrubby bush growing up in the razored previously agricultural land!
In that day every place where there used to be a thousand vines, worth a thousand shekels of silver, will become briers and thorns. With bow and arrows a man will come there, for all the land will be briers and thorns. And as for all the hills that used to be hoed with a hoe, you will not come there for fear of briers and thorns, but they will become a place where cattle are let loose and where sheep tread.
Comment: This describes the land, which was previously delightfully prosperous now a place of desolation and difficult even dangerous. I imagine people saying something like this – ‘A God of Love would never do that!’ ‘You’ve got it all wrong!’ ‘Never in a thousand years! Our leaders know how to rule!’ It is instructive to read the secular history of what happened when the Assyrians invaded the land a few years later!

Jeremiah 6:14 -: “They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. ‘Peace, peace,’ they say, when there is no peace.”

Prayer: Thank You Jesus that having dealt with our estrangement from Your Father that You offer us peace in a world of turmoil.
