1 Woe to those who decree iniquitous decrees,
and the writers who keep writing oppression,
2 to turn aside the needy from justice
and to rob the poor of my people of their right,
that widows may be their spoil,
and that they may make the fatherless their prey! Comment: Who makes the decrees or who are the writers writing oppression? It is easy to answer the government at every level for the iniquitous decrees or to say the paper media or the theologians or the philosophy lecturers for the writing that leads us astray. But who elects the governments or attends the classes of the deviants? Do you and I do our part in speaking up for the standards which God has set? In private or public domains?
3 What will you do on the day of punishment,
in the ruin that will come from afar? Comment: Such behaviour reaps results and I sense that our society is approaching the ‘day of punishment’.
To whom will you flee for help,
and where will you leave your wealth? Comment: Is it better to give some to just causes before your will is read?
4 Nothing remains but to crouch among the prisoners
or fall among the slain.
For all this his anger has not turned away,
and his hand is stretched out still. Comment: This sounds ominous! But repentance and forgiveness are at the heart of the gospel! If we fail to respond, does God make empty threats?
Ecclesiastes 12: 13/14 – The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.
Prayer: Help me to understand the balance between Your offers of Grace and mine of making right choices. Please Father.
