A search for Truth….How would you define it?

Comment 1: We live in a world when the concept of ‘truth’ is bandied about ending up with many people accepting, even if I’m not sure that they believe, that truth is what every person individually decides! To quote Francis Schaeffer that erstwhile popular ‘theologian’, as reported in Wikipedia, ‘”True truth,” a term popularized by Francis Schaeffer, refers to absolute, objective reality that exists independently of human perception or belief. in contrast to subjective or relative truths that change based on perspective. It is synonymous with “the plain, unvarnished truth,” which aligns with the common understanding of truth as a statement, belief, or idea corresponding to fact or reality’.

Psalm 119: 153 Look on my affliction and deliver me,
for I do not forget your law.
154 Plead my cause and redeem me;
give me life according to your promise!
155 Salvation is far from the wicked,
for they do not seek your statutes.
156 Great is your mercy, O LORD;
give me life according to your rules.
157 Many are my persecutors and my adversaries,
but I do not swerve from your testimonies.
158 I look at the faithless with disgust,
because they do not keep your commands.
159 Consider how I love your precepts!
Give me life according to your steadfast love.
160 The sum of your word is truth,
and every one of your righteous rules endures forever.
written truth.

John 14: 1-10 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works.
God’s truth.

John 8: 31-36 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?”
Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
– living proof.

Comment 2: I have quoted today three passages which each have a slightly different slant, They in turn – define ‘God’s word’ as ‘truth’; where ‘Jesus’ says that He is ‘the totality of truth’; and where truth is defined, if known and ‘experienced’ it is the answer to freedom from the power of sin. Personally I much more prefer these composite, (unifying) definitions of truth above the ‘anything goes’ definition, which seems to be the way of lying politicians, woke philosophers and gutless theologians! And leads to the mess in which we are living these days, both morally and in ‘the street’.

Proverbs 12: 22 Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, but those who act faithfully are his delight.

Prayer: Help me to cherish and practice integrity, righteousness and truth, Spirit of God.
