Isaiah 10: 27-34….A victory song backed by history!

27 And in that day his burden will depart from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck; and the yoke will be broken because of the fat.” Comment: Adding to poetry with a bit of historical fact! The promise of God to the remnant returning to Jerusalem is that the oppression (burden) placed on them, as a yoke, (which is Sennacherib, King of Assyria), on their neck but it is to be broken (presumably by God) because Sennacherib has become so self indulgent of self praise!
28 He has come to Aiath;
he has passed through Migron;
at Michmash he stores his baggage;
29 they have crossed over the pass;
at Geba they lodge for the night;
Ramah trembles;
Gibeah of Saul has fled.
30 Cry aloud, O daughter of Gallim!
Give attention, O Laishah!
O poor Anathoth!
31 Madmenah is in flight;
the inhabitants of Gebim flee for safety.
32 This very day he will halt at Nob;
he will shake his fist
at the mount of the daughter of Zion,
the hill of Jerusalem. Comment:
This describes the advance from the south towards the city of Jerusalem with the aim of total victory! Until Sennacherib shakes his fist in threatening defiance against God’s people.
33 Behold, the Lord GOD of hosts
will lop the boughs with terrifying power;
the great in height will be hewn down,
and the lofty will be brought low.
34 He will cut down the thickets of the forest with an axe,
and Lebanon will fall by the Majestic One.
Comment: God promises to lop the branches and trunks of the forest like approaching army. This action of God is described in 2Kings 19: 35 – And that night the angel of the LORD went out and struck down 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians. And when people arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.

Psalm 62: 11&12 – Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God, and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love. For you will render to a man according to his work.

Prayer: Thank you that You are not like other ‘gods’ that men have invented! You are powerful and I trust You!
