1 You will say in that day: “I will give thanks to you, O LORD, for though you were angry with me, your anger turned away, that you might comfort me. Comment: The initial verbs are in the future tense. Does this mean ‘As soon as I have finished writing I will sing?’ Or ‘After the events about which I am rejoicing come about’, I will sing? The verbs related to anger being turned away are past tense. But will that be only when the events are in the past? When the prophecies of yesterday are fulfilled? Or is it true that God is not angry with the Jews and the world today??
2 “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.” – Comment: As the scripture emphasizes there are three aspects to ‘salvation’ which Christ offers – a past aspect ‘Our sins are forgiven’; a present aspect “He saves now from the dominance and power of sin; A future aspect ‘Heaven is perfect, in His Presence’.
3-4 With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. And you will say in that day: “Give thanks to the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples, proclaim that his name is exalted. Comment: The tense of the verbs here seems to me to be ‘present active continuous’! We should be, continuously, joyfully enjoying the past and present aspects of God’s salvation and looking forward to the promised future!
5-6 “Sing praises to the LORD, for he has done gloriously; let this be made known in all the earth. Shout, and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.” – Comment: Our joy is not to be only in ourselves, in our families, in our local area – but reach out to the ends of the earth! God is GREAT!
Psalm 19: 1 & 14 – The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork….Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.
Prayer: May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.
