Psalm 64: 1-10….A Psalm of honesty and insight! A lament!

1 Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint;
preserve my life from dread of the enemy.
2 Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,
from the throng of evildoers,
3 who whet their tongues like swords,
who aim bitter words like arrows,
4 shooting from ambush at the blameless,
shooting at him suddenly and without fear.
5 They hold fast to their evil purpose;
they talk of laying snares secretly,
thinking, “Who can see them?”
6 They search out injustice,
saying, “We have accomplished a diligent search.”
For the inward mind and heart of a man are deep.
7 But God shoots his arrow at them;
they are wounded suddenly.
8 They are brought to ruin, with their own tongues turned against them;
all who see them will wag their heads.
9 Then all mankind fears;
they tell what God has brought about
and ponder what he has done.
10 Let the righteous one rejoice in the LORD
and take refuge in him!
Let all the upright in heart exult!

Comment: We are not told when David wrote this Psalm. Obviously he was in a contemplative attitude and is honest with God ending up with rejoicing, assurance and exaltation! I find several phrases very meaningful even in my past life. 1.who whet their tongues like swords‘. Unjust criticism hurts deeply! 2. For the inward mind and heart of a man are deep.‘ This should be true of everyone, for we are made in the image of God. It is sometimes necessary to see the deep meaning behind what appear to be superficial words! 3.But God shoots his arrow at them‘ – God is on your side if you are true to Him! 4. Let the righteous one rejoice in the LORD and take refuge in him! Let all the upright in heart exult! – The chief end of life is meaningful worship!

Matthew 22: 37b) -40: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbour as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

Prayer: Having been reconciled to You, please help me to live these two commandments out!
