As he said these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts at which you nursed!” But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”
Comment: Many make a big mistake when/if they think that Mary is somehow an Intercessor or even almost part of the Godhead. She is honourable and due of much respect but she is a woman, who needed to be and I’m sure is saved by Grace – the Grace which God gives to every believer in Jesus. There is One mediator between God and man – the man Christ Jesus!
29 When the crowds were increasing, he began to say, “This generation is an evil generation. It seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah. 30 For as Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so will the Son of Man be to this generation. 31 The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here. 32 The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here.
Comment: That generation is very similar to ours. We want scientific proof these days, they wanted miraculous signs and wonders! Jesus said to them and I think He is saying it to us, ‘Just look at what I am and will be!’ He said, ‘Think about Jonah, he was just spewed up by a big fish, I will rise from the dead, in just a little while! The Queen of Sheba came to listen to the wisdom of Solomon, I have the words of Life! Nineveh repented at Jonah’s words – if you don’t believe Me, they will testify against you!’
33 “No one after lighting a lamp puts it in a cellar or under a basket, but on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light. 34 Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but when it is bad, your body is full of darkness. 35 Therefore be careful lest the light in you be darkness. 36 If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be wholly bright, as when a lamp with its rays gives you light. – Comment: Jesus is the Light of the world, and He hasn’t hidden Himself, He is able to be seen by all except blind eyes! A few years ago I was refused a driver’s licence until I had cataract surgery. There are many who need spiritual cataract surgery! They refuse to let the Truth (Light) of Jesus shine into their lives! They choose ignorance/narcisism/skepticism to keep the Light from shining in. What they choose as Truth/Light is really Blackness! Open your life to Jesus’ Truth and your will be at least a shining torch!
Proverbs 12: 18&19 – There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
Prayer: This is so important for us as we often walk in the darkness of evil, leading us astray. Thank You Jesus that You, the Light of the world, entered our world at Christmastime!
