Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Comment: We need special help to see UV and infrared light. We need faith to see the other world which the Bible paints as real as ours. Here our Christian experience is pictured as a race and we are encouraged to….
- Realize that we are being cheered on by ‘a great cloud of witnesses’ maybe it includes those on earth but the picture is mainly of those who have already reached heaven.
- It is a race, so get rid of anything which is going to hinder us in running well.
- Our hero, the champion we are to emulate, is Jesus who has run the race before us. It wasn’t an easy race on earth for Him but he endured it all and now has the joy of victory, sitting at God’s right hand.
Prayer: In shorts and singlet help me to run as if to win
Thank you Barry for your comments and the encouraging picture that we are being cheered on in the race that we are running each day by those who have gone before us. And we have Jesus with us every step of the way. By the way, I had my 83rd birthday last Tuesday, and let me tell you that I CANNOT run anywhere, not even to save my life. It is so cold here in Melbourne, that if I could run, it would NOT be in shorts and a singlet!!! But I can still walk, and in this Lock Down No. 6, I walk around outside under my pergola, when it is not raining. So I do try and get some exercise that way. Or I walk around inside the house and count my steps and try and do between 1,000 and 2,000 each day. Talking about “counting”, I also “count my blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done.” That is my theme song each day. God bless you and Robin and your family.
