He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
Comment: So that God’s Justice might be satisfied and His Love displayed the perfect God-Man, Jesus, was crucified to be bear the punishment that our sin deserves. Not just a physical death but that hellish time when He cried out My God, My God why have You forsaken Me. Separation from God is hell in all its reality. We were lost sheep but when we come in faith we are back in His herd and His fold.
Because of dingoes and wild dogs we have to lock up our sheep every night. I love the way we open the shed door and rattle the container of sheep nuts that they run in. In fact they know the time and stand waiting! Jesus is our Good Shepherd, let us run to Him.
Prayer: Open my eyes wide and my heart also to your leading, O Lord.
