John 1: 1-5…. It needs to be thought about.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Comment: John is the last of the gospel writers to put pen to paper. He writes words having thought very carefully about them. He doesn’t call Jesus by his given name; he doesn’t call by His rank – the messiah, the Christ, the Son of God. He calls Him the ‘Word’. Why?

John tells us that this human baby, called the ‘Word’, was there as part of the Godhead before the world was created. He claims that this ‘Word’ was the agent through whom everything was made. He claims that He is the life of all life and the light (understanding) that makes mankind truly human.

Words explain things and Jesus explains, reveals, shows God, so that we can get right with Him.

Prayer: Open my ears to hear and open my eyes to see what Christmas really means. Please, please.
