1 Samuel 25: 10-13….. David sees ‘red’!

And Nabal answered David’s servants, “Who is David? Who is the son of Jesse? There are many servants these days who are breaking away from their masters. Shall I take my bread and my water and my meat that I have killed for my shearers and give it to men who come from I do not know where?” So David’s young men turned away and came back and told him all this. And David said to his men, “Every man strap on his sword!” And every man of them strapped on his sword. David also strapped on his sword. And about four hundred men went up after David, while two hundred remained with the baggage.

Comment: It seems as if Nabal knew enough about David to insult him, his father, and list David as a no-good break away servant. The land must have been awash with the news of the achievements of David and the trouble between David and Saul. But Nabal dares to stir up a hornet’s nest and the hornet prepares for swift action!

Prayer: May I be known as a gracious person, O Lord!

  1. Thank you Barry for your comments on this passage. David saw ‘red’. And red means danger! Nabal by reputation was not a nice man, unfortunately. Of course, we have read the story before, and we know all about Nabal. His wife, Abigail is thankfully the opposite to her husband. And of course we know that she “saves the day”. God bless you.
(I had a blocked feeding tube this morning, and I had to go to the Emergency Dept at the local hospital where, thankfully the Doctor – after I waited for 4 hours – was able to clear the blocked tube. Which is why I am only now catching up on my emails.)
