And his mother and his brothers came, and standing outside they sent to him and called him. And a crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers are outside, seeking you.” And he answered them, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” And looking about at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.”
Comment: A head-on collision between an itinerant roaming preacher, even though under His outer clothing He is the Son of God, and the religious hierarchy of the land is a major event. By then, as I understand, Joseph was dead. So it is left to his mother and brothers to rescue Him from the situation. Notified that they were outside the meeting area He said that His supporters were His real intimate family. We must not see this as a sleight to His human family but rather as a pointer to the centrality of a faith relationship with Him. Something which He talked about again and again!
Prayer: Thank You that You reassure us that if we truly believe we are Yours!
Thank you Barry for your comments on this passage. Family ties are important in our earthly life, but more important are our prioirities with our Heavenly Father, and His Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. “Love the Lord Your God with all your heart, and all your soul, and all your mind, and all your strength.” God bless you.
