Mark 10: 32-35….He spoke very clearly!

And they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them. And they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And taking the twelve again, he began to tell them what was to happen to him, saying, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles. And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise.”

Comment: Even when Jesus was crucified His followers didn’t expect Him to rise from the dead! They certainly weren’t holding an Easter Sunday Sunrise Service, He had very accurately described what was going to happen in His torture and death but instead of a hope of resurrection, they feared that they would be the next in line for death. Just the other day on TV I heard one talking about what he expected after his own death, and he said ‘I’ve no idea, for no-one has ever come back to tell us!’ I can understand the disciples not comprehending but we live after the event!

Prayer: There are lots of things I don’t understand about the afterlife but thank You, Jesus, for Your teaching and for Your being raised!

  1. Thank you Barry for your comments on this passage. Jesus always told the truth. Every word He spoke to the disciples in this passage came true. They heard His words, but as you said, they feared for their own lives that they too would be killed. This fear, I presume, was so big in their minds, that they didn’t hear and comprehend what Jesus had said to them. And I am sure if I had been there with them, I would have been exactly the same. I would not have heard and understood what Jesus said, because of the fear which I would have been experiencing. God bless you.
