“But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come. It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to stay awake. Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning— lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake.”
Comment: When Christ returns the end of living as it has been known since time began is certain. But the time is only known to God the Father! Then there is a clear clarion call to each of Jesus’ followers (including us) to be busy about our God appointed business. There is a certain degree of warning in this statement of Jesus! “Stay awake” has a sharp authoritative ring about it!
Prayer: When You return I don’t want to be found asleep on the job or wasting my time, Lord Jesus.
Thank you Barry for your comments on this passage. “Stay awake!” Our bodies can’t “stay awake” all the time, because we need sleep to stay awake! But of course, we know that Jesus means “Stay Alert!” be ready, a bit like the Boys Scouts Motto, “Be prepared.” Don’t get lazy and apathetic, be on your guard. One never knows the day nor the hour. God bless you.
