Psalm 27: 11-14….Living in the real world.

Teach me your way, O LORD,
and lead me on a level path
because of my enemies.
Give me not up to the will of my adversaries;
for false witnesses have risen against me,
and they breathe out violence.
I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD
in the land of the living!
Wait for the LORD;
be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the LORD!

Comment: At the beginning of this Psalm David seems to be idyllic. And there is a time for that. Then he came humbly and realistically seeking God and pleading with God to give him victory. At the end of the Psalm he is facing full-on the reality of the situation. His enemies hate him, there are people spreading falsehoods, he is facing a violent and potentially terrifying situation. But he humbly and confidently turns to God asking God to give him a good place to fight in, trusting that he will see God’s will achieved in the end. The final sentence sums it up very well, ‘Wait for the LORD;
be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!

Prayer: Help me to be honest to You, O God, and steadfast in my trust.

  1. Thank you Barry for your comments on this Psalm. David was “a man after God’s own heart”. Even though he sinned, as we all do, he always came in repentance to God, and received God’s forgiveness and grace, and his soul was restored. This is still the best way to live each day, being honest with God, and being prepared to repent when we have sinned. God bless you.
