Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.
And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
Comment: This passage can lead to arguments. But even if you want to get into a discussion we need to see what the passage says as a basis for sensible talking.. So what does it say?
- Mankind came in at the top of the list. He was made to be a major domino of creation.
- There is something said which hasn’t been said before – mankind is made in the image of God. That probably needs some limits put on it for it does not say God made another race of Gods.
- He created two and only two sexes – male and female.
- It reads as if every living bird, animal, human was to be vegetarian.
Prayer: Help me to wait for the lessons that follow before I make life changing decisions, O Lord. But then let me learn them well, please.
Hello Barry Point 3 got me thinking! This passage is before the fall of man. So did our need to eat other creatures come about as a result of our sin?! You do evoke some interesting food for thought! Bless you Jean Venten

Death came at the time of sin. Death to the perfect relationship between God and man/ but also the death of at least one animal to get the skin to cover their nudity. If lions were as they are now you would have thought that they ate other animals. I think I’ll leave some questions to be answered in the future!

Thank you Barry for your comments on this passage. We are made in the image of God. God has given us His image. But we need to be His followers, it doesn’t happen if we don’t work on doing His will and following Him. God bless you.
