Genesis 8: 20-22….A covenant with Noah.

Then Noah built an altar to the LORD and took some of every clean animal and some of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar. And when the LORD smelled the pleasing aroma, the LORD said in his heart, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man’s heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done. While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.”

Comment: We don’t know how long it was after the ark was vacated until Noah built his altar. Obviously either from births on the ark or in the time since the ark settled there were enough animals and birds for Noah to make a considerable sacrifice. Sacrifices in the Bible we are told were ordered by God. But we are also told that it is the attitude of the one making the sacrifice with which God is more concerned. above the pleasant smell of the burnt sacrifice. I lived in an area where the greeting translated literally was ‘Hello, good health, it’s nice to smell you.’ And we all understood that the smelling was to be with your friends. Noah was thankful and God was delighted. And although God didn’t say there will never be another world-wide flood, He did say I will send my seasons regularly. ‘I know you humans are bent to sinning but I will be good to you’.

Prayer: Thank You for caring for us, Father God.
