Transgression speaks to the wicked
deep in his heart;
there is no fear of God
before his eyes.
For he flatters himself in his own eyes
that his iniquity cannot be found out and hated.
The words of his mouth are trouble and deceit;
he has ceased to act wisely and do good.
He plots trouble while on his bed;
he sets himself in a way that is not good;
he does not reject evil.
Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the clouds.
Your righteousness is like the mountains of God;
your judgments are like the great deep;
man and beast you save, O LORD.
Comment: As I read an article for ‘Doctors Without Borders’ this morning I read that there are 34 wars of varying size being fought around the world at the moment. Every day on the news we hear of riots, murders, embezzlements, and a great variety of nasty behaviour. From time to time I hear people say that people are basically good and we ought to treat them with that assumption. I think that David’s assessment was more accurate. And I have to be careful in pointing the finger that some of my fingers are not pointing back to me. We are all sinners but there are some who seem to have sold themselves out to evil! On the other hand God’s steadfast love is a bit like Mt Everest, reaching into the heavens; in the other direction it reaches to the bottom of the deepest sea!
Prayer: Help me to assess others and particularly myself according to Your assessment, O God.

I believe the problem of today’s world is the same as it was in David’s time. “There is no fear of God”
