Psalm 37: 1-7…..Simply trusting.

Fret not yourself because of evildoers;
be not envious of wrongdoers!
For they will soon fade like the grass
and wither like the green herb.
Trust in the LORD, and do good;
dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
Delight yourself in the LORD,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him, and he will act.
He will bring forth your righteousness as the light,
and your justice as the noonday.
Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him;
fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way,
over the man who carries out evil devices!

Comment: It is so easy to be envious of those who rapidly become rich and have everything by acting in a ‘shonky’ way. David gives us the idea if we’re not careful to put things in a whole Bible context, that everything will come crashing down for them as quickly as the grass withers. Their failure is certain, and we can depend on it. Sometimes it happens in this life but the emphasis of the Bible on the whole is that there is always judgement after death. The rest of the beginning of the psalm is encouragement to keep your mind set on God’s way, delighting in faithful service to the God, who knows how to bless. He encourages us not to waste time on jealousy for others ill-gotten profits.

Prayer: Help me to become and be a person of upright character!
