Acts 7: 25-30…..Forty years in a paragraph.

He supposed that his brothers would understand that God was giving them salvation by his hand, but they did not understand. And on the following day he appeared to them as they were quarrelling and tried to reconcile them, saying, ‘Men, you are brothers. Why do you wrong each other?’ But the man who was wronging his neighbour thrust him aside, saying, Who made you a ruler and a judge over us? Do you want to kill me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?’ At this retort Moses fled and became an exile in the land of Midian, where he became the father of two sons.
“Now when forty years had passed, an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in a flame of fire in a bush.

Comment: It is easy to see why Moses presumed that he would come under judgement of the Egyptian court when/if his fellow Hebrew failed to stand up for him. As the story is told, we are not surprised that the wrongdoer refuses to be verbally disciplined by one of the ruling class (Moses) for whom, he and the bulk of the slaves, would have had a certain hatred. Moses fled to safety to the land of Midian, a journey of about 400 Km. After 40 years away from Egypt Moses is staggered to hear a voice talking from a flame in a burning bush, which wasn’t burnt to ashes! Was it an angel?

Prayer: You spoke to Moses when he was 80 years old! Help me to listen for Your leading, no matter how old I am.
