They put him to death by hanging him on a tree, but God raised him on the third day and made him to appear, not to all the people but to us who had been chosen by God as witnesses, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. And he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one appointed by God to be judge of the living and the dead. To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”
Comment: There is no magic formula to enter into a relationship with Jesus, but we need to know the facts. True faith is not blind but based on time and space reality. Here Peter completes the brief story that we read about yesterday. It all hangs on the cross, the resurrection (proven), and God’s appointment of Jesus to be the present Saviour and the future Judge. I wonder how much detail Peter went into in basing the story on the Old Testament prophets. You might remember that Jesus used the same approach when He was dealing with Cleopas and his friend as they were walking, in doubt, back to Emmaus after Jesus had been raised.
Prayer: May my faith be childlike but not childish as I understand the truth of You, Lord Jesus.
