Acts 16: 19-24…..A response to reduced income!

But when her owners saw that their hope of gain was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers. And when they had brought them to the magistrates, they said, “These men are Jews, and they are disturbing our city. They advocate customs that are not lawful for us as Romans to accept or practice.” The crowd joined in attacking them, and the magistrates tore the garments off them and gave orders to beat them with rods. And when they had inflicted many blows upon them, they threw them into prison, ordering the jailer to keep them safely. Having received this order, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks. About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them,…..

Comment: Romans had many gods and even Caesar was one of them. So it is absolutely true that when Paul was calling them to worship only the one true Living God, he was going against their customs. But I suspect that seeing ‘their hope of gain’ gone was a large reason for the Christians to be punished. As so many people around the world are finding out these days people can be horribly cruel to one another. Black and blue from beating, Paul and Silas are thrown into prison, with their feet locked into the stocks. With no TV or other diversions available Paul and Silas set about providing a choir to sing praises to God and a diversion for their fellow prisoners. I wonder what the others thought?

Prayer; Thank You for not deserting us when things are tough Lord God.
