Ecclesiastes 12: 9-14….A summary of many thoughts.

Besides being wise, the Preacher also taught the people knowledge, weighing and studying and arranging many proverbs with great care. The Preacher sought to find words of delight, and uprightly he wrote words of truth.
The words of the wise are like goads, and like nails firmly fixed are the collected sayings; they are given by one Shepherd. My son, beware of anything beyond these. Of making many books there is no end, and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.

Comment: The author (Preacher) was wise but shared his wisdom by being a teacher. One of his main methods of teaching was by using proverbs, I wonder why did he teach with proverbs? They are thought provoking and I find stimulate me to think of other meanings apart from the obvious and, as it were, look at the other side of the coin – that is to say what if I choose to ignore what it is saying. ‘Shepherd’ is a significant word in the Psalms and other books of the OT, and Jesus uses it as a name for Himself. I end up by quoting Solomon’s last words in the book, which I have chosen as one of the basic principles to build my life upon – even if I fail along the way. I seek to get up and keep going! The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.

Prayer: Thank You, Father God, that You do not leave us to go alone through life!
