This is a set of proverbs worth a good few pages of comment!
26 In the fear of the LORD one has strong confidence,
and his children will have a refuge.
27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life,
that one may turn away from the snares of death. – I read that much bravery occurs when people are terrified. In Hebrews it says in ch10v31, ‘It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.’ But there is another aspect to fear that is ‘awe’, amazement, wonder! I think that considering who God is, both aspects of fear are included here! And like bravery it is very productive!
28 In a multitude of people is the glory of a king,
but without people a prince is ruined. – Obviously so! But how does it apply to those of us who are not Royalty? Can it be transferred to ways or avenues of service, or developed character, or productivity?
29 Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding,
but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly.
30 A tranquil heart gives life to the flesh,
but envy makes the bones rot. – We have different natural characteristics whether they be genetic or learnt. We are meant to, under the instruction of a variety of things and people, not least of which is awe of God, to modify our inherent nature, so that we are slow to anger and know peace at our core!
31 Whoever oppresses a poor man insults his Maker,
but he who is generous to the needy honors him. – Our actions do have an eternal effect!
32 The wicked is overthrown through his evildoing,
but the righteous finds refuge in his death. – Heaven and Hell again, no escaping judgement! But remember the ‘It is finished’ as spoken by Jesus! Forgiveness is possible through Jesus!
33 Wisdom rests in the heart of a man of understanding,
but it makes itself known even in the midst of fools. – Wisdom in the core of a person makes them stand out in any company!
34 Righteousness exalts a nation,
but sin is a reproach to any people. – So, so, true, and we forget it often seeking cures/answers for we sinful people and our nations in training or education or so, so many things which are doomed to failure. We need revival of repentance, forgiveness and New Life in Jesus!
35 A servant who deals wisely has the king’s favor,
but his wrath falls on one who acts shamefully. – God is the King!
Prayer: Thank You for the advice Father. Help me to profit by it!
