Proverbs 19: 21-29….More gems!

21 Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand. – God gives a long leash to mankind but He is always in control!
22 What is desired in a man is steadfast love, and a poor man is better than a liar. –
God’s love is much more steadfast than emotional and that is what He requires of us! How does that tie in with the second part of the proverb? To choose being a faithful witness and poor rather than a liar and rich is a demonstration of steadfast love!
23 The fear of the LORD leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm. –
Fear of the type mentioned here is very healthy – it doesn’t make you run away rather it brings you to your bended knee in repentance and worship!
24 The sluggard buries his hand in the dish and will not even bring it back to his mouth. –
Too lazy to even feed himself, he expects others to both provide food for him and feed him!
25 Strike a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; reprove a man of understanding, and he will gain knowledge.
Getting understanding into some people takes a sledgehammer. It is better, much better, to listen to reproof!
26 He who does violence to his father and chases away his mother is a son who brings shame and reproach. –
This doesn’t need to be said, as it is so, so obvious! He brings shame both to himself and to his parents!
27 Cease to hear instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge. –
Don’t be stupid, kid!
28 A worthless witness mocks at justice, and the mouth of the wicked devours iniquity. –
The wicked eagerly indulge themselves on mockery of the land’s and God’s Justice. But God will not be mocked, you worthless and foolish person! So learn your lesson before it is too late!
29 Condemnation is ready for scoffers, and beating for the backs of fools.
– Punishment has its place – if it is ignored it rebounds to societies’ great loss!

Prayer: Thank You for Your words of advice, Father God.
