Psalm 68: 28-35….As Psalm 68 comes to a close….

28 Summon your power, O God,
the power, O God, by which you have worked for us.
29 Because of your temple at Jerusalem
kings shall bear gifts to you.
30 Rebuke the beasts that dwell among the reeds,
the herd of bulls with the calves of the peoples.
Trample underfoot those who lust after tribute;
scatter the peoples who delight in war.
31 Nobles shall come from Egypt;
Cush shall hasten to stretch out her hands to God.
32 O kingdoms of the earth, sing to God;
sing praises to the Lord, Selah
33 to him who rides in the heavens, the ancient heavens;
behold, he sends out his voice, his mighty voice.
34 Ascribe power to God,
whose majesty is over Israel,
and whose power is in the skies.
35 Awesome is God from his sanctuary;
the God of Israel—he is the one who gives power and strength to his people.
Blessed be God!

Comment: I believe that even the most wise and spiritual person on earth just begins to understand the Immensity of God’s Power, Glory and Majesty! So how do we mere mortals even begin to conceive of God’s Greatness? Graciously God became man! Philippians 2: 5-7 says “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.” Therefore we have the ability to begin to understand some things about God in human terms! This conclusion to this beautiful Psalm, on the third day in which we have been considering it, uses very human concepts to express eternal concepts. Forgive me, please, if I strip off 80 years and read this as if I am in primary school! I begin to read as a 7 year old here – v28 Please God, go to the gym and get yourself into prime fitness! God, I’m not just talking about physical strength, I’m talking about Your miracle working power as well. I’ve listened to Bible stories! v29 You’re so famous now that everyone will acknowledge YOU! v30 You know those in Egypt, who live along the Nile and all those other beastly war-mongering people, please trample them into the mud or send them flying! v31 May the Egyptian Fat Ones and the Ethiopian Overlords ‘give up’ to You! v32 Think about how wonderful it would be if the whole world sang together in Your Praise! v33 When You let the storms rip and the thunders roar, we know that You live amongst the heavens and know how to yell out ‘How strong am I’! v34 ‘Silly child, bow down before God, whose Greatness you see in the skies!’ v35 ‘The God of the Jews is the God of the Universe! As you grow up seek your strength in Him!’ ‘Praise God, Amen’!

Job 36: 26 & 37:1-5 – Behold, God is great, and we know him not; the number of his years is unsearchable. & “At this also my heart trembles and leaps out of its place.
Keep listening to the thunder of his voice and the rumbling that comes from his mouth. Under the whole heaven he lets it go, and his lightning to the corners of the earth. After it his voice roars; he thunders with his majestic voice, and he does not restrain the lightnings when his voice is heard. God thunders wondrously with his voice; he does great things that we cannot comprehend.

Prayer: I stand in absolute awe of your Greatness, my Creator, my Saviour, my God!
