15 Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.” 16 And the twenty-four elders who sit on their thrones before God fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17 saying,
“We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty,
who is and who was,
for you have taken your great power
and begun to reign.
18 The nations raged,
but your wrath came,
and the time for the dead to be judged,
and for rewarding your servants, the prophets and saints,
and those who fear your name,
both small and great,
and for destroying the destroyers of the earth.”
19 Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant was seen within his temple. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake, and heavy hail.
Comment: Two chapters have been spent on the time between the sixth and the final trumpet being blown. You may remember that I have suggested that it is not a straight timeline taken but that at the beginning when the sixth trumpet is blown rather the vision moves back in time and covers with increased detail to bring us to the point where the seventh trumpet is blown. Certainly chapter eleven verse fifteen takes us back into heaven, focusing us on what is happening around the Throne of God as the seventh trumpet is blown and the third woe is about to begin! The rest of chapter eleven is an upward glance into what is happening there at the time when “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.” The song of Triumphant Praise doesn’t centre on the Victory which Jesus won at Easter time but rather on the time of Judgement and Rewards – “the time for the dead to be judged, and for rewarding your servants, the prophets and saints, and those who fear your name,”! I am sure that this was sung to a very worshipful majestic tune!
Philippians 2: 9-11 – Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
