Introduction: Yesterday ended with God’s strong promises to those who were to follow in the lineage of David but today the note is very different – David’s progeny weren’t all of the same quality as David! God continues speaking,,,,
30 If his children forsake my law
and do not walk according to my rules,
31 if they violate my statutes
and do not keep my commandments,
32 then I will punish their transgression with the rod
and their iniquity with stripes, – this doesn’t sound as if God is ‘the tut tut, everything’s okay’ grandfatherly type! The exhortation from Hebrew 12 seems very relevant! “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord,
nor be weary when reproved by him.
6 For the Lord disciplines the one he loves,
and chastises every son whom he receives.” But what follows is so important!
33 but I will not remove from him my steadfast love
or be false to my faithfulness. – God cannot be false to Himself!
34 I will not violate my covenant
or alter the word that went forth from my lips.
35 Once for all I have sworn by my holiness;
I will not lie to David.
36 His offspring shall endure forever,
his throne as long as the sun before me. – after reading the history of the Davidic descendants one wonders when the line is going to produce the Messianic type Everlastingly Good King! With none of David’s
37 Like the moon it shall be established forever,
a faithful witness in the skies.” Selah
The Selah at the end calls upon us to think. I said that yesterday the tone of the writing made me feel as if this were a Messianic Psalm. I believe that Jesus is the Messiah. If that is true how does history fit this all together? Jewish records were well kept and Matthew follows the line from David to Joseph whom we know was Jesus’ legal father although he had no part in Jesus genetic makeup. Both my adopted sons are legally my sons, and as precious to me as my genetic offspring! Luke very carefully follows Mary’s genetic line back to David. So Jesus is both legally and genetically in David’s line! Jesus had no genetic children but is eternally alive! So He fits the picture both genetically and legally and in Heaven sitting with God the Father perfectly fits the fulfillment of God’s promise to David and re-enforced in the words of this Psalm. I am convinced. Are you?
Proverbs 30: 4 – Who has ascended to heaven and come down?
Who has gathered the wind in his fists?
Who has wrapped up the waters in a garment?
Who has established all the ends of the earth?
What is his name, and what is his son’s name?
Surely you know!
Prayer: Help me to be absolutely honest to You, my God.
I’m convinced!
The Lord is faithful.
Jesus is the Messiah.
Praise His Name.
