14 Thus says the LORD:
“The wealth of Egypt and the merchandise of Cush,
and the Sabeans, men of stature,
shall come over to you and be yours;
they shall follow you;
they shall come over in chains and bow down to you.
They will plead with you, saying:
‘Surely God is in you, and there is no other,
no god besides him.’” – If you look at this verse (14) and ask where is the meaning today, you may think skeptically! In the light of anti-semitism and the Middle Eastern wars it seems inaccurate. Cyrus did lighten the oppression of Israel at that period by centering his attacks on surrounding nations while building up Judea. This building up of Judea is recorded in Ezra and Nehemiah, as referred to in the last couple of days. Or does it refer to what happened at the time of Christ’s death, resurrection and the Pentecost event, when people poured into Jerusalem from the surrounding nations and were greatly blessed? Or is it still to be fulfilled when Jesus comes again?
15 Truly, you are a God who hides himself,
O God of Israel, the Savior.
16 All of them are put to shame and confounded;
the makers of idols go in confusion together.
17 But Israel is saved by the LORD
with everlasting salvation;
you shall not be put to shame or confounded
to all eternity. – the first section. of v15 (Truly, you are a God who hides himself,) seems to be very true in people’s experience! But behind the scenes whereas all idols, ancient or modern, are powerless, God is still in control! Powerfully competent and Sovereign!
18 For thus says the LORD,
who created the heavens
(he is God!),
who formed the earth and made it
(he established it;
he did not create it empty,
he formed it to be inhabited!):
“I am the LORD, and there is no other. – I asked Wikipedia the question, ‘If today everybody alive stood shoulder to shoulder would they fit into Australia?’ And the answer was, ‘Yes, they would fit with ease. In fact, if every person on Earth (roughly 8.3 billion people) stood shoulder-to-shoulder, the entire crowd would occupy only about 400 to 500 square miles’, It is interesting that in the West people are refusing to have children because of ‘several reasons’. Not all groups, and some of them very anti-Jehovah, agree and are swinging the balance of power in the world!
19 I did not speak in secret,
in a land of darkness;
I did not say to the offspring of Jacob,
Seek me in vain.’
I the LORD speak the truth;
I declare what is right. – God will win the day! I suspect that even though to ‘them’ He is hidden He is winning now!
Daniel 2: 20,21 – “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to whom belong wisdom and might. He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings;
