Introduction: Read this as the end of a dramatic movie, although it will be horribly real when the seventh bowl is emptied on our home – earth!!
Rev 16: 17 The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple, from the throne, saying, “It is done!” 18 And there were flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, and a great earthquake such as there had never been since man was on the earth, so great was that earthquake. 19 The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell, and God remembered Babylon the great, to make her drain the cup of the wine of the fury of his wrath. 20 And every island fled away, and no mountains were to be found. 21 And great hailstones, about one hundred pounds each, fell from heaven on people; and they cursed God for the plague of the hail, because the plague was so severe.
Comment: The series of images above highlights the things mentioned as will happen when the seventh angel pours his bowl of wrath! Most of the passage talks about things happening – an earthquake, cities destroyed, mountains and islands removed. This seems in the light of Old Testament passages eg Zech 14 4 and following to have a shift in the infrastructure of the earth! In two points it touches on people. ‘Babylon’ is here, I believe, the word used for the embodiment of evil as expressed in both fallen angelic behaviour and in humans practicing evil! Responsible individuals, angelic or humans, involved are made to ‘drain the cup of the wine of the fury of his wrath.’ Secondly the huge heavy hailstones, either made of ice or something more explosive, fall on people. This part of God’s wrath sadly brought only God being cursed, without associated humble repentance! It would seem that the time for Grace and Forgiveness has been passed. Wrath having been poured out, Judgement is about to begin!
Isaiah 26: 21 – For behold, the LORD is coming out from his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity, and the earth will disclose the blood shed on it, and will no more cover its slain.
