Psalm 93: 1-6….A watery Psalm!

1 The LORD reigns; he is robed in majesty;
the LORD is robed; he has put on strength as his belt. –
Some can pack oodles of thoughts into one sentence! In this sentence a) God is the King – He reigns. b) Majesty oozes from His every pore, so that He has an aura of Majesty! c) ‘the LORD is robed‘ – ‘I image that this is pictured in Rev 1: 13-16. Dressed superbly for rulership! d) His strength is so obvious that no-one can miss it!
Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved.
– Here the poet takes a bit of poetic licence as later we are told that ‘at the end’ there will be a New Heaven and a New Earth!
2 Your throne is established from of old;
you are from everlasting.
– this maybe poetic but it is absolutely true truth!
3 The floods have lifted up, O LORD,
the floods have lifted up their voice;
the floods lift up their roaring. –
I think that the psalm is obviously using the word ‘floods’ in an illustrative way! – And remembering that Israel used ‘the sea’ to describe ‘Gentiles’ I think that floods represents masses of people. Firstly Israelis, then masses proselytes and after Jesus’ Resurrection masses of converted pagans!
4 Mightier than the thunders of many waters,
mightier than the waves of the sea,
the LORD on high is mighty!
– On July 9th 1958 a wave 524 metres high was measured associated with an earthquake in Alaska! When Mt Everest was eventually covered by waves but there must have been some beauties in Noah’s time!
5 Your decrees are very trustworthy;
holiness befits your house,
O LORD, forevermore.
– What is the house which trustworthiness and holiness befit? I think here what Peter says in his first epistle fits the picture. 1 Peter 2:5 says ‘you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house.’

Comment: As you probably know the shortest Psalm is 117 which in Hebrew has only 17 words! This is a very short Psalm, but it sure packs a punch!

Rev 1: 13-16 – One like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest. The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength.

Prayer: I fall at Your feet, and cry out “Thou art worthy, O LORD.
