Proverbs 3: 13-20 (ESV)
Blessed is the one who finds wisdom,
and the one who gets understanding,
for the gain from her is better than gain from silver
and her profit better than gold.
She is more precious than jewels,
and nothing you desire can compare with her.
Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor.
Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
and all her paths are peace.
She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her;
those who hold her fast are called blessed.
The LORD by wisdom founded the earth;
by understanding he established the heavens;
by his knowledge the deeps broke open,
and the clouds drop down the dew.
Comment
Gold and jewels are only available to the wealthy. High officials and society leaders even these days use them to show to those around them their wealth and significance. But to be wise outshines the most brilliant jewels. Rooted in wisdom your life flourishes like a mighty tree. Your wealth is real, not passing and maybe even fake, and you are truly blessed.
And if you want an example of what wisdom can achieve, Solomon claims that it enabled God to found the earth and get water from the sea to drop down from the heavens to meet the needs of all. Maybe we can replace the word wisdom by the word Jesus (Christ) as we are reminded that in several places in the Bible Jesus is said to have created everything (eg. Jn1: 1-3). If we start with nothing, evolution can’t explain anything. Things maybe change from something to something but nothing to something??????
Prayer: Help me to understand Your role in this business of wisdom and creation please.
