Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully, inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories. It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look.
Comment: This reminds me of Jesus, after His Resurrection, walking with two people on the Emmaus road explaining how the (what we now call), Old Testament was full of His story. He explained how He had fulfilled things that are here described as the things which the prophets were searching for. They carefully inquired as to what they were all about. In Christ we have answers which even the angels long to see.
Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
Comment: This all calls for action! Well informed, sober-minded, thinking; forward looking hope for the coming again of Jesus. Live changed patterns of living; escaping the past ignorance of patterns of living and straining towards holiness . As God, who has called us is holy, you be holy.
Prayer: Help me to live like a child of Yours should, O God.

Some of the words Peter writes remind me very much of Paul’s letter to the Romans in chapter 12:1-2. “With eyes wide open to the mercies of God, I beg you, my brothers, as an act of intelligent worship, to give Him your bodies, as a living sacrifice, consecrated to Him and acceptable by Him. Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mould, but let God re-mould your minds from within, so that you may prove in practice that the plan of God for you is good, meets all His demands and moves toward the goal of true maturity.” (J B Phillips Translation).
