And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
Comment: I am commenting on the passage in the reverse of how it is written.
- It is written to those whose hope and faith is in God.
- Our faith and hope are based on something much more precious than anything on this earth. It is based on God’s plan of salvation which was in place from the beginning, having been acted out. A planned salvation based upon the adequacy of the sacrifice of the perfect Son (Lamb) of God.
- We have been rescued from the result of the sinful state in which all men live, and here is highlighted the place of their (our) own progenitors and culture.
- We still have to stand and answer to our Father in Heaven one day. In Christ we will be in His Heaven, but we are called to live in awe and obedience of our Father God.
What an awesome passage.
Prayer: Thank you for Your Spirit who lives within as my Helper and Guide.
